Under such a scenario what will be the changes to the US/NSG-India deal which India may not like ?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13437119.post-59822046603460631802008-08-10T22:07:00.000+05:302008-08-10T22:07:00.000+05:30I think if India "walks away" as Varadarajan says,...I think if India "walks away" as Varadarajan says, this will be a loss for the NSG since the reactors which are to be made useless for weapons production because of IAEA safeguards.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13437119.post-7916824352547127542008-08-08T22:16:00.000+05:302008-08-08T22:16:00.000+05:30Perhaps you could explain to those of us who miss ...Perhaps you could explain to those of us who miss the point of the threat: why would NSG members, insistant on non-proliferation and meaningful monitoring and safeguards, be upset at India walking away from this deal? The counter-point you seem to miss is that those who would insist, for example, on a non-explosion clause, see the risks not in India's "civilian" nuclear program, but in the military use of nuclear technology. Is it unfair to insist that Nuclear Supplier countries will not support a country that will use a nuclear bomb?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13437119.post-42473253890992001552008-08-08T17:02:00.000+05:302008-08-08T17:02:00.000+05:30NSG's India-centric guidelines, as implemented by ...NSG's India-centric guidelines, as implemented by its members up to the present "eleventh hour", did achieve a good thing - it triggered and helped maintain India's efforts in indigenous development of nuclear technology. My thesis is that, if NSG decides to become extinct as a technology denial cartel and in doing so, decides to bequeath nuclear goodies to India, then we will see the emaciation of India's strength which lies in its own nuclear technology development efforts and achievements.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
